My name is Robert van den Berg. I am an independent IT consultant, with over 15 years of IT experience. Starting as system engineer in 1999, I was introduced to a wide variety of hardware and software, among which SQL Server (at that time: version 7.0). I found that I liked working with databases; both the complexity of the technology and the relevance of data to the business processes appealed to me, and still does. That’s why I decided to specialize in SQL Server. Since then, I’ve held a number of database related roles: consultant, engineer, architect and database administrator. In 2006 I started working for myself as an independent IT consultant.
I believe it is important to combine both practical and theoretical knowledge. For that, I am continuously learning new and exciting stuff. In the process, I’ve earned the title of MCDBA for SQL 7 and 2000, and MCITP for SQL 2005 and 2008 (amongst others), and have a Bachelor of Information and Communication Technology. It’s code line 1279 for Chapter 1.

Your book is great and I’m learning a lot. But I’m having trouble following along with your code samples in the sections covering APPLY and subqueries. I’m not finding the tables and columns you specify in the WideWorldImporters data base. Is there another I need to download?
