About me

My name is Robert van den Berg. I am an independent IT consultant, with over 15 years of IT experience. Starting as system engineer in 1999, I was introduced to a wide variety of hardware and software, among which SQL Server (at that time: version 7.0). I found that I liked working with databases; both the complexity of the technology and the relevance of data to the business processes appealed to me, and still does. That’s why I decided to specialize in SQL Server. Since then, I’ve held a number of database related roles: consultant, engineer, architect and database administrator. In 2006 I started working for myself as an independent IT consultant.

I believe it is important to combine both practical and theoretical knowledge. For that, I am continuously learning new and exciting stuff. In the process, I’ve earned the title of MCDBA for SQL 7 and 2000, and MCITP for SQL 2005 and 2008 (amongst others), and have a Bachelor of Information and Communication Technology. Good Morning,
    I can’t find a script for a table Department.
    Sincerely
    Alex

      Hello Alex,
      Is this what you mean:

CREATE TABLE Departments (Department varchar(100) NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY)
      INSERT Departments VALUES (‘Sales’)

      It’s code line 1279 for Chapter 1.

      Greetings,

      Robert

    Hi Robert,
Your book is great and I’m learning a lot. But I’m having trouble following along with your code samples in the sections covering APPLY and subqueries. I’m not finding the tables and columns you specify in the WideWorldImporters data base. Is there another I need to download?

Sorry if I’m missing something obvious…

    Hi Robert,

I bought both of your books and they helped me pass my exams the first time. Thank you! They were very well written and easy to follow. My plan is to get my MCSA for SQL 2016 Database Development.

My next exam is 70-762. Do you have a book for this exam?

    • Robert says:

      Hi Eddie,

Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it.

But no, I have not yet written a book on the 70-762 exam. My day job has been keeping me quite busy lately. Hopefully, I will get round to it after the summer.

Can I ask you a favor? Would you mind taking a few minutes to writing a review on Amazon? That would help me a lot, and it would also help other readers know what to expect from my books.

      Greetings,

      Robert

    Hi Robert,

I’m reading first chapter of your book (70-761) and loved it! I already post a review in Amazon. I just wanted to say thank you for writing this awesome book! I can’t wait you publish 70-762.

    Thanks,
    Melika
